4 IDPs dead, 11 wounded in junta night-time air raid in Thandwe

Four internally displaced persons (IDPs) lost their lives, and eleven were said to be injured in an airstrike by the junta at night in Thandwe township, southern Rakhine State, where people are taking refuge.

Thandwe Township is governed by the Arakan Army.

A social activist from Thandwe Township informed Narinjara News that military air strikes on schools in Kyaukgyi Village and Pazunpyay Village in Thandwe Township last night resulted in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to 11 others.

"The junta air force targeted the Kyaukgyi Village and Pazunpyay schools in Thandwe Township, where displaced people have taken refuge. Four internally displaced persons were killed, and 11 were wounded," he stated.

The total of casualties is currently unclear because of issues with phone connections.

Similarly, a fighter jet dropped a bomb on the downtown region of Thandwe, Rakhine State, at 10:40 pm on June 7, close to the old military recruitment camp.

"There were no injuries reported from the bombardment that occurred yesterday at 10:30 pm close to the old military recruitment center near the football field in Thandwe," he stated.

The military council announced a temporary ceasefire from June 1 to 30, and he remarked that the bombing of schools in Thandwe, an area without fighting, was a cowardly act.

"This is a cowardly action by the junta. It is wholly intolerable to intentionally target areas where non-combatants reside."
