The Burmese military junta has warned government employees that they would be dismissed if they were found joining the demonstrations.
The Southeast Command Commander Major General Thet Naing Win issued orders that the authorities would discharge government employees if they get involved in the ongoing protests.
"They will really dismiss us if we get involved in the protests," a school officer in Mon State said.
Since the second week of this month Mon State authorities have ordered government officers to undertake 24-hour patrol of all departments with their staff members.
According to a former Myanmar Agricultural Service (MAS) officer, the Burmese regime had dismissed government employees involved in the 1988 uprising. The regime also discharged officers involved including headmasters.
"I was also involved in the 1988 uprising but was not well-known and I continued working in the MAS office after the uprising," said the former MAS officer.
