Nearly 500 people forcibly conscripted by junta in Kachin State

The junta forcibly conscripted nearly 500 people in Kachin State and sent them to military training depots, according to data released by Unlawful Conscription Watch.

According to the Unlawful Conscription Watch, a dashboard published by the Human Rights Ministry of the resistance-run National Unity Government (NUG), the junta had conscripted 469 people in Kachin State as of March 31, 2026.

This figure is based on 24 cases out of the total complaints. Nationwide, there are reportedly 1,913 similar cases.

There were 32,974 conscription-related abductions nationwide, with Mandalay Region accounting for the highest number at 9,434.

The Myanmar Defense & Security Institute (MDSI), formed by participants of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM)—a major anti-coup campaign in which civil servants and security personnel refused to work for the regime—estimated that the junta has conscripted more than 100,000 people up to conscription batch 22.

Of the conscripts recruited, 70 percent were forcibly drafted, coerced into compliance through intimidation, or otherwise compelled against their will, according to the MDSI.
