Hla Thinn Aung, (30) a Rakhaing demonstrator was arrested by the Thai Police for living illegally in Thailand. The police also arrested other participants but those who had documents to reside in Thailand were released later.
"We can give 5,000 Baht to the police and can free Hla Thinn Aung from the police station," said U Kyaw Thaung, one of the organizers of the demonstration.
The 20-minute demonstration outside the Myanmar Embassy was organised this morning to condemn the 19th anniversary of the Burmese military junta's stay in power since 1988, September 18.
The agitation was organized by the Bangkok branch of Thailand based Burmese labour organization-Yaung Chi Oo and Overseas National Students organization of Burma (ONSOB) in exile. Around 70 people from different organizations, like the Association of Burma Ex-Political Prisoners (ABEP), Rakhaing Patriotic Literature Club (RPLC) and Zomi National Congress (ZNC) participated in the demonstration.
