Prisoners Escape from Taungoo Prison, Resulting in Corporal's Death

According to reliable sources within the Prisons Department, 10 prisoners facing trial under the Anti-Terrorism Law managed to escape from Taungoo Prison by stealing weapons from the security forces.

On May 18th, at 2:55 PM, the prisoners managed to steal guns, fired shots at Taungoo prison, and swiftly made their escape.

An official said, "I can confirm the incident. Yes. We are working to recapture the prisoners as soon as possible."

The prisoners, who were taken from their cells to go on trial, managed to steal weapons from the security forces and swiftly ran away.

During the shooting, Corporal Maung Myo was killed on the spot, while Sergeant Kyaw Myint, a veteran, sustained injuries.

The prisoners managed to obtain one carbine and one MA 11 firearm from the security forces.

A resident near the prison said, "I heard that there was a prison break. Three terrorists stole weapons after escaping. Some of the guards on duty lost their lives."

The seven recaptured prisoners have been identified as Chit Min Thu, Zin Ko Ko Aung, Thiha Aung, Nyein Chan Aung, Toe Naing Tun, Sithu Than Aye, and Khin Myo Kyi.

Among the escapees, Thant Zin, Aung Kyaw Oo, and Bay Dar (aka Bhone Nyunt Zaw), who are currently facing trial under Section 49-A/50-A/50-N/51-C/52-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act, are reported to have successfully fled.
