Number of IDPs reach nearly 100,000 in KNU Brigade 6

The number of people fleeing the KNU-controlled Dooplaya District has reached almost 100,000 due to the military council's offensive and human rights violations, the Karen National Union (KNU)’s spokesperson told Than Lwin Times.

The regime forces have extended their military presence and invaded the Myawaddy-Kawkayeik Asia highway near Laykaykaw-Phaluu-Taungni region in the southern part of Mywaddy in KNU Brigade 6 clashing with the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

On October 19, there were confrontations between a combined force of KNLA’s Cobra Column and the junta army who conducted a military operation in Nyaungchaung village of Brigade 6 while other clashes occurred on Myawaddy-Kawkayeik Asia highway as well as Biskat village in Kyarinseikgyi Township.

The regime forces continuously fired mortar shells into Kyainsiekgyi’s Biskat village, and military aircraft dropped five bombs on nearby villages. The details of the incident are under investigation, Red Dragon Column said.

According to KNU Spokesperson Pado Saw Taw Nee, the military council troops' airstrikes and mortar attacks on the villages have caused more residents to escape the area around the 6th Brigade than before.

A report by the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) claims that more than 350,000 people have displaced in Karen State as a result of the military council's brutal attacks and offensives since the military coup, and that IDPs are at risk of getting harmed from landmine explosions, airstrikes, and artillery shells.
