Prisoners released to appease people, regime says

A total of 1,577 prisoners have been pardoned under Section 401, Sub-section (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, announced the military council.

The statement added that the sentence would be added to previous one if they commit another crime again.

Most of those released on April 17 were arrested under Section 505, a source in Insein Prison told The Than Lwin Times on condition of anonymity.

Of the 1,577 released, 42 were foreign prisoners.

The identities of individuals who were released have yet to be unkonwn.
