Armed Forces Kill Protester in Hpakant

Armed forces fired live rounds killing one person, seriously injuring another at a protest in Hpakant town, Kachin State, during Global Myanmar Spring Revolution Day, which saw peaceful rallies against the military regime break out across the country on Sunday.

Police and soldiers attacked the protest when they were gathering in Lon Khang ward in the morning, according to an eyewitness.

A 33-year-old man from Lon Khang Ward 1 died immediately after being shot in the neck and a 27-year-old from Maw Wan village was wounded when a bullet struck his chest. The deceased man was cremated later that day in Hpakant.

Armed forces shot at several hundred people who gathered for a peaceful protest in Mogaung town. Fortunately, no one was hit by the bullets or arrested.

During the rallies, protesters held signs that said “We Support NUG (National Unity Government)” and “Spring Revolution”.
