National Reconciliation and Peace Centre (NRPC) Chair and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the New Mon State Party (NMSP) chairperson have reportedly met in Nay Pyi Taw today.

It’s the first time for Nai Hongsa to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi since his appointment as NMSP Chair.

According to details posted on NRPC social media site, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi urged the New Mon State Party (NMSP) to focus more on peace, development, and ethnic affairs after signing the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).

She also stressed the need for cooperation to successfully hold the Union Peace Conference – 21st Century Panglong in line with the decision of the 8th Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting.

Nai Hongsa expressed his support for the Federal Union’s development policy, delivered by the State Counselor [Daw Aung San Suu Kyi] at the 4th Anniversary of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) signing.

He added that ethnic nationals have more confidence in the State Counselor. Nai Hongsa stressed the need to overcome issues that have not yet been agreed on in political dialogues.

“I cannot say what the outcome of the upcoming peace talks will be. I do not know what the Tatmadaw’s opinion is. However, I believe it is a good sign that the government and Hluttaw and we have a similar perspective for the peace,” Nai Hongsa said in his recent interview with the Mon News Agency (MNA).

The meeting reportedly included discussions about the Mon language teaching program, local development, and the livelihoods of the New Mon State Party (NMSP) military personnel and their family members.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for the Office of the State Counselor U Kyaw Tint Swe, Chairman of the Peace Commission Dr. Tin Myo Win, Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo and NMSP joint secretary Nai Win Hla, Central Committee members Nai Aung Ma Nage including Nai Bayar Lei and commander in chief Maj. Gen.Nai Bayar Mea San.
