In an effort to educate young people and the public about the upcoming 2020 election and the Myanmar Constitution a variety of groups came together to offer a training session in Mawlamyine from January 19 to the 21st.

The collaborating groups included the Mon Youth Progressive Organization (MYPO), community-based development organizations, the Mon Human Rights Foundation, and Konhongsar.

Trainer Win Nyi Nyi Zaw said that “during the three-day training, I have explained and shared relevant information related to the constitution and the election.”

Participants were eager to share the knowledge they gained and will encourage greater citizen involvement in the election process.

“There is only one Mon party in 2020 compared to 2015 so that the vote will not be scattered. The vote of everyone eligible to vote is crucial for the delegate represents the Mon people. This training is aimed at educating young people and the public regarding this information,” said Mehn Wonna from Mon Youth Progressive Organization (MYPO).

The knowledge gained from the training will be shared with her neighbors, according to Mi Watoi Hongsar, one of the trainees.

Approximately 35 Mon youth attended the training, and have plans to hold election-related educational activities in their respective areas.

According to the State Election Sub-commission, Mon State has already collected information for more than 17,050,000 million eligible voters in advance of the 2020 general election. The list does not yet include military personnel and their family members.
