Phu Ei Ei Nwe — Interfaith CSO organizations issued a press statement expressing welcoming and supporting State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi’s visit to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Myanmar Muslim Network patron Dr. Myint Thein told Mizzima, “Our statement expresses our support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi taking responsibility, accountability and her bravery in defending this case. The case is filed against our country. We don’t know yet what will be the verdict by the court in this case. The ICJ is the highest court of the UN. So, we cannot evade it in this and that way. We expect a fair and independent judiciary.”

Gambia filed a case against Myanmar for allegedly committing genocide and human rights violations against Muslims at the ICJ. The State Counsellor’s Office issued a press statement dated November 21 which says State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will lead the effort to defend the national interest of Myanmar.

On filing the case against Myanmar, the ICJ prescribed the dates of submission of verbal arguments by both parties between coming December 10 and 12.

Many interfaith CSOs such as Saffron Monks’ Network, Myanmar Muslim Network, Ingin May Hindu Women’s Organization, Peace Building Network, Social Alliance Organization, Stop Child Sexual Abuse, Our Legacy Peace Network, Reliable Organization, Human Rights and Equality Action Network etc. were involved in issuing the press release on November 25 expressing on their stand and opinion on this ICJ case.

Other CSOs will organize a mass rally on December 10 in front of Maha Bandoola Square welcoming and supporting Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
