Monyo lower house MP accused of corruption

House of Representatives MP Kyaw Myo Min from Bago Region, Monyo constituency has been charged under section 56 of Anti-corruption Law.

A complaint was lodged with the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly taking money from nine fish pond licensees in Monyo Township by promising them an extension of their licenses for three more years.

The ACC issued a press statement which says the commission investigated the complaint and found that the accused had asked money from these licensees two times with amounts of 3.5 million kyats and 3.2 million kyats in March 2017 for 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 financial years while he was supervising the auction of these natural fish ponds in the township for extension of their licenses in his capacity as administrator of local area development.

A First Information Report (FIR) was reportedly registered at Monyo Myoma Police Station in Bago Region and the case is being investigated.

MP Kyaw Mo Min won election from Monyo constituency by representing National League for Democracy (NLD) party in the 2015 general elections.

A corruption complaint was lodged against this Monyo constituency MP Kyaw Myo Min in 2017 but no action and he was given the punishment of a six-month suspension from party posts.
