6.6 million unregistered SIM cards turned off

Myanmar authorities have turned off 6.6 million unregistered SIM cards so far, Xinhua reported.

In Myanmar, SIM cards of any telecom operators are sold everywhere and except official shops of the providers, no registration with IDs are needed at street shops.

As of March 31, 2017, about 8.68 million unregistered SIM cards were temporarily blocked and later, the registration time limit was extended for three more months to allow those unregistered ones to be registered.
