Representatives from three estates, namely the legislative, the administrative and the judiciary, organized a workshop at the Ministry of Information yesterday to discuss the draft law of Right to Information, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar.

In his opening remarks, Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint said that people have sounded a clarion call for the emergence of Right to Information Law as they have felt that it is necessity in a democratic state.

According to the workshop, over 100 states worldwide have enacted this law despite some differences in practicing it.

Dr Pe Myint said the essence of democracy is concerned with public participation, while the administration need to take responsibility and accountability for transparency. Therefore, the three pillars should provide information to the public.

The situation has changed compared to the past as modern technology and social media spread information, he said.
