Woman injured from artillery shell explosion

A clash erupted near Shwetamar village in Minbya Township on 2 June, injuring a woman in her 40s after artillery shells landed on her house.

Shells from the conflict near Shawetamar village landed on houses in Myaungbwe village in Mrauk-U Township.

“In the afternoon at about 4 p.m, shells landed on houses in our village. It was raining at that time. Her back was injured after the explosion of the shell that landed on her house,” said Ko Myo Chit Maung from Myaungbwe village.

Daw Hnin Win Yi, 41, was first taken to the village hospital, but was transferred to Sittwe hospital later after she was sent to Mrauk-U hospital because of the severity of her injuries.

“We first took her to Mrauk-U hospital, however the injuries she received were very serious so she was transferred to Sittwe hospital,” an official from Garuna Hlaing Blood Donor Association in Mrauk-U Town told the DMG.

The injured woman arrived at Sittwe at about 10a.m and given medical treatment as an in-patient of Sittwe hospital’s surgical ward.
