A woman from an IDP camp in Kan Sauk village, Kyauktaw Township, died giving birth on Saturday morning.

Ma Aung Thein, 29, died soon after delivering baby at Kan Sauk hospital in the early morning at about 3am on May 25.

“She went into labour at about 1am, it was raining heavily and there was thunder and lighting. She died two hours after giving birth,” said U Hla Kyaw Maung from Kan Sauk IDP camp.

People from the camp said that she died because of the lack of health care during her pregnancy and she could not be admitted to the hospital due to the curfew order in Kyauktaw Township although she needed emergency medical treatment to deliver her baby.

The infant is now at the IDP camp with the father and her funeral was held at Kan Sauk cemetery in the evening.

There are 525 people in the Kan Sauk IDP camp and pregnant women from the camp want to be provided with sufficient health care.
