More than 60 percent of village administrators from Mrauk-U Township who have tendered their resignation are going to back their offices.

Following the arrest of four villager administrators, the regional government received the resignation of 100 village administrators, 89 of them handed in their resignation on March 1 and 11 more resigned on March 4.

Some village administrators decided to go back to work since their detained colleagues were released. More than 60 of 100 village administrators will perform their duties again.

Authorities released the four village administrators and a villager from police detention a few days later after their resignation.

“We resigned with the intention seeing the detained village administrators released. Now, we decided to resume our work after a discussion because we feel it’s important for us to represent the people of our village the best way possible,” said U Sein Aung Kyaw, administrator for Kyauk Kyan village.

But, about 40 of them will not return to their duties citing security problems and other issues as the reason.

“We couldn’t return to work because of the lack of safety and problems we encounter working for the development of the village. That’s why we are not returning to our offices at the present time,” said U Soe Naing, administrator for Kan Sauk village.
