The Union Election Commission (UEC) has allowed the establishment of Arakan Front Party (AFP), which is led by Dr Aye Maung.
U Soe Win, who took part in applying for the permission, said the UEC granted the permission to establish the party under the name ‘Arakan Front Party’ on October 11.
“It’s true that permission has been granted to establish the party. We are happy to receive the permission. We will continue to work on registering this party and establishing it,” U Soe Win said to Narinjara News.
The notification letter from the UEC was addressed to U Soe Win and it states that they have to select a leader and deputy leader within 30 days and submit their names to the UEC.
The party originally applied for permission to establish under the name ‘A Pha Arakan State Party’ on February 19 this year but it was rejected by the UEC so another application was submitted under the name ‘Arakan Front Party’.
Dr Aye Maung, who has been detained, told the reporters that the party will be established under his leadership.
