The police are investigating five people after 379 counterfeit Ks 10,000 notes were seized in Kyein Chaung Village under Mrauk U Township in the Rakhine State.
Kyein Chaung Village Administrator U Maung Maung Thein told Narinjara News that two residents of Bu Ywet Ma Nyo Village and a resident of Kyein Chaung Village under Mrauk U Township and two residents of Rathedaung Township are under investigation.
"The police are investigating five people. [Counterfeit] money worth Ks 3.79 million have been seized. They are Ks 10,000 notes. The five men are from different townships. They are from Bu Ywet Ma Nyo and Kyein Chaung and two of them are from Pyin Wun under Rathedaung Township," he said.
When Narinjara News contacted Mrauk U Myoma Police Station, the police chief said they are still investigating the counterfeit money case.
"We haven't arrested them yet. We are only interrogating them. We will be able to release in details tomorrow. We didn't go and seize the counterfeit money. They were submitted to us. They were submitted after they were found to be counterfeit money," said the police chief of Mrauk U Myoma Police Station.
The two residents of Pyin Wun from Rathedaung Township were in Kyein Chaung Village to buy cattle.
