A six-member delegation from Myanmar arrived in Dhaka on April 1 for a bilateral border guard conference this week, according to a statement from the Bangladeshi Border Guard.

The six-day conference began on April 2 and will discuss issues affecting both sides of the border, including drugs, immigration and security concerns, according to the statement.

More than 100,000 Muslim Rohingya have poured over the border into Bangladesh since a security crackdown began in northern Rakhine State in October. Bangladesh has repeatedly asked Myanmar to swiftly begin repatriations, but Myanmar officials have insisted a nationality verification program precede any returns.

Chief of Police Brigadier General Myo Swe Win is leading the Myanmar delegation, while the 16-member delegation led by Additional Director General Md Anisur Rahman represents the BGB in the conference, the press statement added.

Officials from Bangladesh’s Home Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Survey of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Department of Narcotic Control will also attend the conference, a source told Kaladan.
