A second Rohingya man was reported as missing last week.
Yahaya, 25, was last seen on the afternoon of March 29, according Noor Hakim, a relative.
Yahaya left his house in Ywaet Nyo Taung village around 7am to visit friends in a neighboring village, according to local resident Sarwar Kamal.
When Yahaya failed to reappear later on March 29, his family launched a search party. Finding no evidence of his whereabouts, they reported the disappearance to security forces.
In a separate incident, 35-year-old Nabi Hussain vanished on March 21 after he went to see his mother-in-law, according to his wife. He has not been since leaving his mother-in-law’s village.
The alleged disappearances in conflict-hit northern Rakhine State come amid months of “clearance operations” where security forces have arrested over 500 suspects reportedly in connection with October attacks on border guard posts. Rohingya residents have made numerous accusations regarding arbitrary arrests, detentions and extrajudicial killings in the wake of the clampdown. Several people have also gone missing and later been found dead in what the government has deemed “retaliatory attacks” on villagers who cooperated with the security officials.
