Teknaf, Bangladesh: More than 510 Rohingyas were arrested and pushed back to Burma by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during April 2015, according to a BGB official.
He said: “They were arrested at different entry points on the Bangladesh-Burma border by BGB when they crossed border illegally.”
Mostly Rohingyas crossed the border through the entry points of Shapuridip, Noapara, Teknaf Zalia Para, Naitaung Para, Dumdum Meah, Nilla, Whykong and others, said a BGB officer.
When asked a local, Hamid Hussin, said: “Rohingyas came to Bangladesh from Burma for medical treatment, visiting the refugee camps and some others came to find jobs in Bangladesh.”
Hamid also said that it is very difficult for the Rohingya community to survive in Arakan State because they face restriction of movement, lack of jobs, arbitrary harassment and lack of proper health care and education.
The Bangladeshi authorities have conducted various raids along the border areas and seized Yaba tablets and others drugs worth taka 165,859,318 which were smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma by smugglers during April, according to BGB sources from Teknaf Battalion No. 42.
However, members of the BGB have kept security tight in border areas to prevent the illegal entry of Rohingyas, Yaba tablets and other drugs which come to Bangladesh from Burma, official sources added.
