Six projects have been on hold in Mon State since being halted under the Thein Sein administration, leaving shareholders and investors waiting for a final decision, the Minister told MNA in an interview on Monday.

“At the moment, suspended projects continue to be on hold. [Project owners] have come to us to suggest the projects be resumed, but the government will review them first and then decide whether or not they should restart.”

Three of the six projects are to be managed and implemented by union-level authorities, including a sugar processing factory in Belin, bus terminal construction in Mudon Township, and a water purification plant on the Attran River that uses a build-operate-transfer (BOT) funding model with public and foreign investment.

The state-level ventures, including the [Thit Pon Seit] Housing Project in the capital city of Moulmein [Mawlamyine], are to be managed by the state development department and municipal authorities.

Dr. Aung Naing Oo, deputy speaker of the Mon State Hluttaw, confirmed that suspended projects would only be green lit once suspension orders were withdrawn.

According to an article in the state-run newspaper on February 26, the Thein Sein government suspended 68 projects across the country during its time in office.
