A Hilux truck attempting to transport over 70,000 amphetamine tablets was busted at a border inspection gate in Maungdaw, northern Rakhine (Arakan) State on July 20, according to a police official.
“A total of 78,000 WY amphetamine tablets worth K156 million kyats were seized at the Maungdaw 3-mile inspection gate at 8:40pm last night [July 20],” said an official from Maungdaw Myoma Police Station.
A team led by Police Corporal Bo Bo Han and Tay Zaw Htike, were doing their regular inspection route when they found the tablets in a vehicle traveling from Buthidaung to Maungdaw.
“We found a suspicious bag among the travel bags of the six passengers in the vehicle. When we inspected it, we found 78,000 amphetamine tablets which were mixed along with the clothes in a yellow bag,” said the police officer from Maungdaw Myoma Police Station.
The police said the amphetamine tablets belonged to two men aged 23 and 32 from Maungdaw, who were on board the vehicle. Pyin Phyu Police Station has filed charges against the two men.
