A MP from the Arakan National Party (ANP) is included among ministers proposed for the Arakan State government even though the ANP said it would refuse to take part if not allowed to lead. Chief Minister U Nyi Pu announced that ANP MP for Ramree Township U Kyaw Lwin has been nominated for Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, and Mining Minister.

ANP party’s Secretary-General U Tun Aung Kyaw told Narinjara News that the party will have to take action against U Kyaw Lwin if he decides to take the ministerial post.

“We don’t know U Kyaw Lwin’s view on being nominated as a state minister. If he steps over Announcement No 1/2016 and accepts the post contradicting the party’s desire we will need to solve this in line with our regulations,” he said.

At the time of press Narinjara News was unable to contact U Kyaw Lwin for his comments.

State MPs opposed to the proposed ministers needed to submit their objections by yesterday.

Arakan State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu proposed a total of seven cabinet members to the Arakan State Hluttaw (parliament) on April 5. Of the proposed ministers, only U Min Aung from the NLD and U Kyaw Lwin are from political parties. The others are experts from outside.

U Min Aung was nominated for Development Affairs, U Kyaw Aye Thein for Finance, Revenue, and Economic,  U Aung Kyaw Zan for Electric Power, Industry, and Road and Communications, Dr Chan Thar for Social Welfare, U Kyaw Hla Tun for State Attorney-General, and Daw Yin Yin Hla for State Auditor-General.

Border Affairs and Security Minister Col. Htain Linn and Chin Affairs Minister U Pone Bwe have already been appointed as the cabinet members of the Arakan State government.
