Military Junta Airstrikes Hit IDP Camp in DeeMawHso, Injuring a Child

On the morning of March 21, at around 10:30 AM, military junta carried out an airstrike on an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp located in the western part of DeeMawHso Township, Karenni State. This attack injured a 10-year-old boy, according to local IDPs.

“They dropped bombs twice. The first time, they dropped two bombs. The second time, they also fired machine guns. A child was hit in the shoulder, so we took him to the hospital,” said an IDP.

The junta used a .8 machine gun during the attack. Following the airstrike, junta forces stationed in DeeMawHso continued shelling the area with heavy artillery, but there were any casualties.

The attack occurred near a school where they were celebrating graduation ceremony. Due to the attack, the event was canceled. Students and IDPs had also flee to safer locations.

After the bombing, a military aircraft conducted aerial surveillance over DeeMawHso Township.

Since the junta is trying to retake Moebye, a town on the Karenni-Shan border, they have increasingly used incendiary bombs not only in conflict zone but also in civilian residential areas.

On March 4, an airstrike on the western part of DeeMawHso resulted in a civilian sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
