Two hand-grenades were thrown at Kanbawza (KBZ) Bank on Bayintnaung Road, Yangon at 3:20 p.m. on 20 February, according to a guerrilla group.

"KBZ Bank ATM and the bank’s commercial vehicle were damaged. The vehicle was slightly damaged. There are a lot of broken glasses at the ATM," an officer from the Burma Phoenix Organization-BPO said.

"I heard the bomb exploding. As it is a public holiday, no injuries were reported. An ATM glass mirror was shattered. The junta military troops arrived at the scene to investigate,” a local resident said.

The group said this was a warning attack as the KBZ Bank stands on the Military Council side and freezes and closes public bank accounts.

BPO claimed their group also blew up the railway line at the top of Aye Yeik Mon (4) Road, Hlaing township and the railway in Mayangone township, Yangon Division on 8 January.

KBZ bank was founded in 1994. Kanbawza Bank (KBZ Bank) is Myanmar's largest privately-owned bank with more than 20,000 employees. KBZ became a target because it is believed that they have been sharing information about those suspected of donating money to support the resistance, and also freezing accounts used for this purpose.
