Woman injured by stray bullet in Kyauktaw Township

A woman from Late Ma village in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township received a bullet wound yesterday morning at about 8 a.m. while she was cooking at her home, according to her family members.

Ma Myat Myat Thwe was hit by a stray bullet that ricocheted during a shootout with a military column, her father said.

“She was cooking at home. The stray bullet hit and she was wounded in her right thigh. She was taken to Kyauktaw hospital and her condition is a bit serious,” U Aung Hla Soe, father of the victim, said yesterday evening.

The military troop previously fired near the village, they then shot into the village, he added.

Some villagers fled to nearby villages during the barrage by the Tatmadaw troop but they returned home in the evening, according to local sources.

The DMG phoned Colonel Win Zaw Oo and Maj-Gen Tun Tun Nyi, who are spokespersons of the Tatmadaw, for comment regarding the incident, but they could not be reached.
