Woman injured after stepping on landmine

A woman from Nga Pyaw Chaung village in Kyauktaw Township was accidentally stepped a landmine yesterday afternoon and was sent to Kyauktaw hospital, according to administrator of the village.

Daw Khaing Soe Yee stepped on a landmine while she was heading to her farm one mile from the village. Her legs and arms received injuries.

The Tatmadaw and the AA fought in early December near the village and some villagers were injured due to landmines at that time.

“Farmers like us are concerned about the risk of landmines,” said Daw Hla Nu from Nga Pyaw Chaung village.

Local residents who traveled outside their villages to search for food or firewood often died or were injured after stepping on landmines or taking home unexploded ordnances they found in the forest.
