Village Administrators in Ye Township Plan Resignations Amid Security Concerns

Village administrators and committee members in Ye Township, Mon State, are reportedly planning to resign due to escalating security threats, according to sources close to the situation.

The intensifying armed conflict in Ye Township has led to a series of arrests and killings targeting village administrators and their team members.

“Since the monsoon season ended, clashes in Ye Township have become more frequent.

Revolutionary groups have been detaining and killing village administrators and committee members, leading to heightened fears for their safety. Some administrators have even started relocating to different places at night to avoid danger,” a source explained.

Recently, a graphic video released by the Ye Blu group showing the brutal execution of an individual further heightened anxiety among administrators. The growing perception of vulnerability has fueled an increasing number of resignations from local administrative roles.

“In addition to the killings, the lack of adequate security has left many administrators feeling defenseless. Even when incidents occur, the military and police fail to provide timely protection. Family members of administrators are also pressuring them to step down after witnessing the threats,” a local resident said.

On November 23, the Ye Blu group attacked the Ayu Taung village administrative office, resulting in the death of U Lin Oo, the village administrator, and injuries to at least four others, including two civilians.

This year alone, over 61 village administrators and their associates have been killed in Mon State, with more than 10 sustaining injuries.

The rising violence and targeted attacks underscore the perilous situation for local administrators in conflict-affected areas, as many now face a difficult choice between their duties and personal safety.
