Two Cases of H1N1 Influenza Detected in Hakha

Public health officials in Chin State have reported two cases of H1N1 influenza in the state capital Hakha, but said that no special precautions would be needed to contain the disease, which has killed 106 people nationwide so far this year.

According to the report, the two infected individuals will not need to be admitted to the hospital for treatment.

“They tested positive for the H1N1, but there is no need for them to be hospitalized. They got sick and were coughing a lot, so we did blood tests and found that they had been infected with the H1N1 virus. It was one male and one female patient, both living in Hakha. It was about 10 days ago that we found they had the virus. The situation is still under control. We are watching them closely,” Dr. Aung Ngwe San, the director of the Chin State Health Department, told Khonumthung News.

As of August 30, health officials have detected 644 cases of H1N1 across the country, out of a total of 1,511 who were tested for the disease. Of these, 106 patients have died.

Dr. Aung Ngwe San said that the H1N1 virus is spread through the air when infected patients cough or sneeze. It can also be contracted through direct or indirect physical contact with patients, so people need to wash their hands frequently and maintain personal hygiene.

If a person is exposed to the virus but has high resistance and good personal hygiene, it is unlikely they will become seriously ill. However, children, the elderly, and people with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart or respiratory disease are at high risk developing severe symptoms that could lead to death.

The symptoms of H1N1 influenza are high fever, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, and agitation.
