Eight out of ten suspects allegedly involved in the attack on a Navy tugboat near Sat Yoe Kya Bridge in Arakan State’s capital Sittwe have been released after a police interrogation, but two of the accused have been charged for leaving Myanmar illegally, according to their families.

The AA on 22 June attacked the Navy tugboat with rockets and ten people found nearby the incident were arrested under suspicion of involvement in the attack.

After nearly a month of police interrogations, Ko Ye Min Naing and Ko Soe Htet Aung Naing have been charged for illegally leaving Myanmar for China.

They were released from custody on 22 July, but they have been detained again under immigration laws, said U Tun Shwe, father of Ko Ye Min Naing.

Head of immigration in Sittwe Township has opened the case at Sittwe township police station and will take action against the men for leaving Myanmar illegally, the police station confirmed.

Their court hearing is scheduled for 6 August, their families said.

If found guilty, they might face six months’ imprisonment which may be extended to an additional five years.

Police detained nine people for three mine blasts in Sittwe on 24 February 2018, and Sittwe township court sentenced two of them, Ko Than Shwe and Ko Maung Myint Kyi, to six months’ imprisonment on 8 August for leaving Myanmar illegally.
