Twenty-nine miners missing in recent landslide in Hpakant

Twenty-nine miners are missing in a landslide at Mat-lin-jaung in the Kachin State's Hpa-kant jade mine area on July 24.

Two residents of Maw Mon Village and two residents of Hpar-pyin Village have been recently added to the list of 25 missing miners.

The landslide occurred at around 5 am on July 24 due to heavy rainfall in the previous night.

Hpa-kant Township MPs, administrator, and the police are holding meetings to discuss how to rescue the missing miners in the pile of dumped soil.

Local residents and eyewitnesses claimed that around 40 miners have been killed in the landslide, which occurred ten days after the deadly landslide in San-khar mine.

Twenty people were killed and 64 people were injured in the landslide in San-khar mine on July 14.

Over 100 miners are believed to have been buried in the landslide, but the rescue operation has been halted due to the rain and lack of machines.

Although the landslide took place in Mat-lin-jaung, miners are still digging in the area above the landslide area.
