Rakhine National Party (ANP) Vice-Chairperson Aye Nuu Sein told Mizzima that the top leaders of Arakan Army (AA) have been charged under section 52(a) of the Counter Terrorism Law.

Pol. Capt. Aung Thura registered case against seven local villagers from Kyaung Taung village, Mrauk-U Township and the top five leaders of the AA under section 52(a) of the Counter Terrorism Law as prosecutor.

“We have registered case against these accused since April this year. We have registered case against these 12 accused since long time ago. Some of them have not yet been arrested. We have an absconder case in our police procedure. These absconders are Tun Myint Naing, Nyo Tun Aung, Kyaw Han, Khaing Thu Kha and San Shwe Maung,” the Police Captain said.

Aye Nuu Sein said that she found these names of AA top leaders when she received criminal attorney power on July 5 of the Criminal Case number 46/2019 at Sittwe District court.

Other accused in this case were produced before the court on July 4 but the court proceeding could not continue as the fugitives are connected in this case.

The court reportedly fixed the next hearing for July 18.

Seven local villagers from Kyaung Taung village were arrested while they were taking a sick man from Thabaw Sar Tae Suu, Pan Myaung sub-township, Minbyar Township to Mrauk-U hospital.
