A Tatmadaw soldier and a young woman have been injured after a time bomb set up by an unknown armed group struck the Tatmadaw convoy in Hseni Township, northern Shan State at around 1:30 am on Monday (June 9).

The unknown armed group set off the time bomb while nineteen ration trucks from the 230th Infantry Battalion (IB-23O) and 547th Light Infantry Battalion (LIB-547) under Kawkareik-based 12th Military Operations Command (MOC-12) were resting at Nam Aun Village (Ye Pu gate). The military convoy was travellng from Lashio to Laukkai, according to Hseni resident, who has close ties with the Tatmadaw.

“I was told that the bomb was set off with a remote while the government army (Tatmadaw) convoy was sleeping. We don’t know who is responsible. A private from No 14 truck was injured in his mouth. After being startled [by the time bomb], the Tatmadaw opened fire and nearby homes and a young woman were struck by bullets,” said Sai Oo Kham, Pyithu Hluttaw MP from Hseni Township.

A new clinic and a house were struck by bullets and a young woman has been taken to Hseni Hospital after being struck by a bullet in Nam Aun Village (Ye Pu gate), he continued.

“The young woman, who was struck by bullet, is not in a worrisome condition. The public is very scared,” he added.

Hseni Township is located on Mandalay-Lashio-Hseni-Muse-China Road and Mandalay-Lashio-Hseni-Kunlon-China Union Highway.

Besides the Tatmadaw, the police, and the people’s militia, this area is also frequented by Shan, Palaung, Kokang, and Kachin armies.
