A female teacher who was released after a one-day interrogation by the Tatmadaw has been provided with medical treatment yesterday because she fainted when she saw villagers fleeing from homes as a military troop enter their village, her relative told the DMG.

On 23 July, a military troop entered Yan Aung Pyin village in Rathedaung Township and checked off about 800 villagers on their household member list. Other people could go back home on that day, but Daw Mya Thein Tan, a teacher from village’s primary school, was released on the evening of 24 July.

The teacher fainted on the way to Norway village to go to the school she has been assigned to, she was subsequently given medical treatment at Laung Chaung village clinic, said Daw Ma Thein May, one of her relatives.

“She fainted from panic when she saw people from Norway village running away from their homes. We could not get a vehicle to go to Sittwe, so we provide medical treatment for her at Laung Chaung village,” she said.

After the AA attacked the Tatmadaw’s three navy ships anchored at Pyar Bin Yin village in Rathedaugn Township on 20 July, the Tatmadaw troops started investigating Yan Aung Pyin village.

Over 4000 people from five villages including Pyar Bin Yin, Zay Gone Dan and Kha Tauk Chaung villages fled to other villages for safety when the Tatmadaw’s vessels retaliated once the AA opened fire.
