Tatmadaw soldier arrested for raping 70-year-old woman, stealing gold earrings in Monghpyauk

A Tatmadaw soldier has been arrested on charges of raping a 70-year-old woman and stealing her gold earrings after cutting off both ears in Monghpyauk Township in the eastern Shan State.

On condition of anonymity, a man from a political party in Monghpyauk told the Shan Herald that the soldier raped the 70-year-old elderly woman from Wan Hway Village under Monghpyauk Township near a golf course and took her gold earrings on April 2.

“The grandmother was returning from the plantation. She was robbed near the golf course. That man is a soldier from a nearby military base. He is Private Nay Myo Thu. He is currently detained in Monghpyauk Jail. The grandmother is receiving medical treatment at the medical hospital,” said Sai Kham.

Tachileik Online News reported that Private Nay Myo Thu strangled Daw Par Kaung and hit her head with a knife from her satchel. He dragged her body inside a bush after she lost conscious and cut both her ears to take the earrings. He took an earring and dumped the other near the body. The Tatmadaw 100-bed Hospital No 1 has filed charges against him at Monghpyauk Police Station under Section 394/326 of the Penal Code.

Rumors claimed that the soldier has been sentenced to 66 years in prison on April 3, according to political party communities.
