Survey reveals public dissatisfaction with Chin State Police

The majority of the public in the Chin State are unsatisfied with the service and performance of the Chin State Police Force, according to a public opinion survey on the development of the Chin State and the three pillars of the government.

The Ar Yone Oo Social Development Association and Chin Natural Resources Watch Group (CNRWG) conducted the survey in nine townships in the Chin State and the survey reveals that 51 percent of the public is ‘totally unsatisfied’ with the performance of the police force.

The CNRWG’s director U Lian Thwung said the police’s failure to perform on time and taking sides whenever a crime occurs make the public become suspicious towards the police.

“When those that should actually be taking the responsibility for the public does not take responsibility in the security sector, it’s like an insecure fence and the public can’t rely on the police when there is a crime and they’ve neglected their duty. Even when they go to the police, they don’t believe in them,” he said.

Although the public report to respective police station whenever a crime occurs, the police fail to take actual action and act accordingly on time, which leads to lack of rule of law, he continued.

Fifty-one percent of the public answered that they are totally unsatisfied with the police and thirty-six percent answered that they are satisfied with the police. The remaining 13 percent answered that they do not know the performance of the police force and does not contact them.

Khonumthung News contacted the officials from the Chin State Police Force several times, but they did not give any responses.
