The state-based ethnic party says they are facing obstacles in its campaign

Maw Oo Myar — U Steven Tun Tun, a candidate from the Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP) in State Hluttaw Constituency No. 1, said he was facing harassment by dissidents from other party during the election campaign.

“On the 1st of October, someone gave false information, and the police came to investigate us that the car we rented was selling drugs. When the police searched and found nothing, they asked who was leading this campaign and so on. After we explained well about it, they went back. The incident took place in Wan Kone region,” sad Steven Tun Tun.

Steven Tun Tun said that for the second time, officials from the Loi Lin Lay police station in Wan Kone came to interrogate them on the 1st of Ocbtober after receiving information that they were selling drugs.

Last month, young people in Loi Lay Lin were interrogated for the first time on allegedly gambling during a soccer match.Steven Tun Tun will contest in the State Hluttaw Constituency No. 1 in Loikaw Township.Sai Naing Naing Htwe, a spokesman for KySDP, said he wanted the political parties to be politically motivated, not to attack the other parties.

“I want it to be a politically speaking party. If they want to gain political advantage after speaking out against each other, this should not be the case in the nature of a campaign. So we want them to be politically campaigning parties,” U Sai Naing Naing Htwe continued saying it.

He made the above remarks at a press conference on October 2 at the Democratic Party headquarters in Loikaw, Kayah State. He also pointed out that these issues are happening in every township.

 

At Maw Mari Tun’s Amyotha Hluttaw (National Assembly) constituency-11 in Loi Lin Lay, Loikaw Township, the youth were also questioned by police for allegally gambling; instead they were discussing for soccer tournament.

At present, no complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission, but it will be reported as soon as evidence is available, he said.Steven Tun Tun said those issues need to be identified as the polling stations have already been submitted to the election commission.

In the constituencies in Loikaw Township, each candidates from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), KySDP, National League for Democracy (NLD); National Democratic Force (NDF), United Democratic Party (UDP); Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD); Union Betterment Party (UBP); National Unity Party (NUP); National Political Democratic Party (NPDP); People’s Party of Myanmar Farmers and Workers; and the Pa-O National League Party (NLP) will contest in upcoming election.
