UWSA Will Not Sign Draft NCA
The Pansang Conference
The Pansang Conference

Bao Youxiang, the leader of the United Wa State Army (UWSA) said that they cannot accept the draft Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) signed by the Union-Level Peace Working Committee (UPWC) and Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team (NCCT).

The comment came in a speech he made on 5 May to the ethnic armed groups’ conference being held at the headquarters of the UWSA in Pansang Town, Eastern Shan State from 1 to 6 May.

He said the UWSA cannot accept the draft NCA signed by the UPWC and NCCT on 31 March because it does not address current problems.

On the first day of the conference he had also urged all ethnic leaders to support Wa calls to have their own state in Burma.

The conference finished on 6 May and the participants decided they would issue a 12 point statement after the conference finished.
