Interfaith peace prayer held in Taunggyi

The Shan State government launched a month-long interfaith peace prayer event in the state capital on October 17.

Members of the public were encouraged to attend the ceremony to learn about the different faiths practiced in the multicultural state.

Around 3,000 people participated in the first interfaith Taunggyi event.

“The interfaith prayer was for all citizens of all religions to come together with the aim of peace. The prayer is held to promote unity, mutual respect, peace and stability across the entire country,” said U Soe Nyunt Lwin, the spokesperson of the Shan State government and the state's Minister of Planning and Economy.

The Shan State Interfaith Friendship Group’s secretary U Khin Maung Oo said, “By holding interfaith praying ceremonies frequently, we hope to achieve peace and mutual respect between different religions for the different ways of praying.”

U Soe Nyunt Lwin said interfaith prayers will be held every Tuesday for one month.
