Shan State police chief urges to set up CCTVs for city security

The Shan State Police Force Commander urged the installation of CCTVs for the security of the Shan State’s capital Taunggyi.

Police Brig-Gen Aung Aung, the commander of the Shan State Police Force, urged banks, hotels, and gold shops to install CCTVs to reduce crimes. He also told the security staff not to wear uniforms similar to national security organizations.

He said this during a security awareness-raising ceremony held at the Shan State Police Force office in Taunggyi on February 15.

“Whenever a crime takes place, it’s difficult to close the gap between the time one informs the police station, the time the police arrive, and the escape of the culprits. So, we have to go after [the culprits] based on the remaining CCTV records,” said Police Captain Myo Oo from Taunggyi Myoma Police Station.

The police have been occasionally holding public awareness talks at the village groups, remote areas, urban wards, schools, and express bus terminals to reduce crime and persuading markets and shops to install CCTVs, he explained.

According to him, more crimes have been reported to the police in this transparent era since the police have been taking actions on the reports in line with the law.

“We were able to solve some crimes but we still aren’t able to solve some crimes,” he added.

Hotel owners, gold shop owners, in-charges of express bus terminal, bank owners, and officials from City Square attended the ceremony.
