Ruling party MP arrested with weapon and ammunition

Junta media reported that a member of parliament from the National League for Democracy was arrested for allegedly possessing a Retay XTREME 9 mm pistol, its magazine, 25 bullets and a fake citizenship registration card on 10 July in Yangon.

The XTREME is a medium type, polymer frame semi-auto, double-action blank pistol. It can fire blank ammunition and is a tactical-style model pistol.

The report on 16 July said that U Aung Kyaw Kyaw Oo, the Pyithu Hluttaw MP for Hlaing Townhip, and his wife Daw Khin Moe Myint were arrested in North Dagon Township in Yangon.

After further investigations, 14 people were held with arms and ammunition, totalling 17 individuals.

The junta has accused Aung Kyaw Kyaw Oo of organizing a PDF group in Hlaing Township and carrying out armed attacks and explosions six times in June and July in their area.

The report added that the MP is also a leader of People’s Security Committee and the main supporter behind bomb attacks in Hlaing and Mingalardon Township.
