Rohingya killed in Rohingya camp gunfight of two groups

A tragic incident took place in Block H-32 of Ukhia Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar on June 13, 2023 around 4:00 am, resulting in the death of a Rohingya man - Bashir Ullah (35), son of Faju Mia and a resident of Rohingya Camp-10 Block H-32 in Ukhia, was caught in the crossfire between members of the ARSA - Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army- and RSO -Rohingya Solidarity Organization- groups, according to camp sources.

The shooting took place between ARSA and RSO members, and approximately 10-12 rounds were fired during the altercation. Tragically, Bashir Ullah sustained a gunshot wound to the head, leaving him in critical condition. He was promptly rescued and rushed to the IMO Hospital in Camp No. 9 for immediate medical attention. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Cox's Bazar, the sources more added.

Currently, the body of Bashir Ullah is being held at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. Sheikh Mohammad Ali, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhia police station, confirmed that the shooting incident occurred between two groups within the Rohingya camp in the early morning, resulting in the unfortunate death of one Rohingya individual.

In the last five-six months, almost 20 people were killed in the camps. The law enforcement situation is not as we want it to be. Earlier, attacks took place at night and now it is happening also in daylight. One of the main reasons is frustration. Due to the delay in repatriation, Rohingya people are getting frustrated and getting involved in criminal activities like armed groups and smuggling groups. As it's a border area, drug peddling is also very common. Rohingya youths are very vulnerable to any type of criminal activity, according to Armed Police Battalion spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police Faruq Ahmed.
