Regime's Mon State Council to pay full compensation for airport and port projects

Mon State council spokesman U Aung Kyi Thein told Than Lwin Times that the land compensation will be fully paid for the international-class airport and port project to be built near Mawlamyine.

The Mon State’s military council has allocated land to build an international-class airport near Kawtparan village, Mudon Township, and an international port between Balauk Nyaung Wyne and Wekali village, near the sea outlet of Mudong Township.

More than 4,300 acres of land have been designated for the international airport project and more than 360 acres of land for the port project. More than 27 billion kyat will be paid as land compensation for the project.

Mon State Council spokesman U Aung Kyi Thein said that the land compensation, including the value of banana trees and palm trees, will be paid more than the current prices in the region.

Currently, the land compensation for the projects has been submitted to the military council and may be included in the next financial year, he added.

In addition, the authorities have assured that they will consult with local representatives in setting the value for land compensation so that there will be no damages.

The Mon Unity Party, a Mon political party that cooperated with the military council, told Than Lwin Times that it is keeping an eye on the airport and port projects and that it will try to be in accordance with the law in paying land compensation.

The military council has invited companies to an open tender to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of an international port.

On July 11, the Mon State Hluttaw Representative Committee declared that the military council's plan was only a dictatorial effort for a handful of individuals and that it was illegal to seize, sell, or handover their land because it was not an official government.
