The proposal to impeach the Rakhine State Minister of Planning, Finance, Tax and Economy U Kyaw Aye Thein was voted down in the Rakhine State Hluttaw on June 29.
Among 44 voters, 25 MPs voted for the proposal and nine voted against it while ten votes were invalid.
“The proposal would have won if it received two-third votes. It only needed six votes. It would win only if it received 31 votes. Now, it received 25 votes but the MPs who submitted the proposal have lost,” said State Hluttaw MP U Tun Thar Sein from Mrauk U Township.
Twelve MPs submitted a proposal to the hluttaw to impeach the Rakhine State Minister of Planning, Finance, Tax and Economy U Kyaw Aye Thein for failing to perform his duties in carrying out projects.
The state hluttaw assigned a five-member investigation team led by State Hluttaw MP U Naing Kway Aye from the NLD Thandwe Township to investigate the case.
After the findings were submitted to the Rakhine State Hluttaw, the proposal was voted during the 4/2014 emergency session on June 29.
After the votes were cast, the State Hluttaw Speaker announced to the hluttaw that the proposal was lost since it failed to secure two-third of the votes.
The investigation committee’s chair U Naing Kway Aye told the reporters that the ten invalid votes were cast by the Tatmadaw MPs.
