Many Rakhine civil society organizations (CSOs) have provided financial assistance to the family members of the civilians that died in the police crackdown in Mrauk U and those that were injured in the incident.

The Arakan Patriot Group (ARG) donated Ks 3.8 million, with Ks 200,000 each for the families of the seven deceased men and Ks 200,000 each for the injured civilians on January 21.

Sittwe CSOs Representative Committee donated Ks 1.9 million, with Ks 100,000 each for the families of the deceased and 12 injured civilians while Sittwe Shwe Padain Group also donated Ks 1.9 million, with Ks 100,000 each for the deceased and injured civilians.

Kyauk Taw Social Organizations led by Dr Tun Aye from Kyaw Taw donated Ks 1.3 million, with Ks 100,000 each for the families of the deceased and Ks 50,000 each for the injured civilians.

Ayet-thay-ma (Yet-kan-thay-ma) Village from Mrauk U Township also donated Ks 210,000 for the families of the seven deceased men, with Ks 300,000 per family.

“The Arakan Patriot Group donated a total of Ks 3.8 million. We feel very saddened for the families of the deceased. The entire Arakan people are in great sorrow over this incident,” U Soe Naing, vice-chair of the ARG, said to Narinjara News.

He added that such kind of incidents has taken place more than once in the Rakhine State and everyone needs to prevent it from happening again in the future. He also urged the authorities to see the public as the public.

A social organization from Pauk Taw arrived in Mrauk U yesterday to provide its assistance.

Although the Rakhine State government provided Ks 500,000 each to the families of the deceased on January 20, the family members refused to accept it and returned it back to the state government.
