Protest leader in Dawei sentenced to more than 2 years in prison

Ko Kyaw Htwe who was accused of being a Dawei protest leader was sentenced to two years and four months in prison by the special court in Dawei prison under two charges, on June 23rd, said his family.

Security forces arrested him at a car workshop on Dawei Myothit-4 Street on March 10th, said a local.

He was charged under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code and the Export-Import Law.

He was sentenced to two years under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code and four months for a separate charge of illegal use of an unlicensed car. The family of Ko Kyaw Htwe will consult with the lawyer on whether an appeal should be made or not. His family has been denied access to him since his detention.

Ko Aung Wai Yan Kyaw from Walgyun ward who was also accused of being a protest leader was sentenced to four years in prison on June 21st.
