The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) and the Peace Commission held an informal meeting on July 12 while it was in Naypyidaw for the Union Peace Conference.
This informal meeting was held after the cancellation of the plan to hold an informal meeting in Thailand on May 12.
The meeting was attended by the Peace Commission’s chair Dr Tin Myo Win and vice-chair U Thein Zaw and the KNPP vice-chair Khu Oo Reh, Maj-Gen Aung Myat (deputy military chief), general secretary U Shwe Myo Thant, and joint secretary 2 Khu Daniel.
No announcement has been made on the outcome of the meeting.
During the meeting held at the City Hall in the Kayah (Karenni) State’s capital Loikaw on April 26, the KNPP and the Peace Commission discussed about continuing the implementation of the bilateral agreements that were signed at the state-level and the union-level and released a statement describing three agreements including the agreement to continue the negotiation for signing the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA).
The leaders of the NCA signatories met with the KNPP in mid-June to discuss about signing the NCA and implementing the peace process together.
The KNPP is a member of the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) and it has been negotiating with the government’s Peace Commission for signing the NCA.
