According to the officials from the Myanmar Air Division, the new Mawlamyine- Yangon flight will start operating on December 5. It will be operated every Monday and Friday.

“ At Mawlamyine Airport, it will start on December 5. The plane will operate two days a week,”  said Air Transport Officer U Aung Kyi Thein.

According to the Air Transport Office, the Mawlamyine-Yangon flight ticket is set at 147,000 kyats per ticket.

Currently, there is only the Mawlamyine-Yangon route, and there is no separate Yangon-Mawlamyine route yet, if it is needed to come to Mawlamyine from Yangon, people will have to take the Yangon-Kaw Taung-Mawlamyine route according to the Air Transport Office official.

It used to be possible to travel from Mawlamyine to Yangon by flight, but since there is no Mawlamyine-Yangon air route, people are forced to travel by bus and train.

At present, the Nyaung Khar Shay X-Ray checkpoint at Sittaung Bridge is facing difficulties for people traveling by car, especially for emergency passengers, as there are several days of travel delays.

Therefore, a philanthropist from Mawlamyine said that he welcomes not only railway travel but also air travel while facing difficulties in traveling.

“The difficulties happening in Mon State right now are charity ambulances. It takes about 5 days to get patients. There was a patient who died waiting at the Nyaung Khar Shay gate,”  he said.

Since the military coup, there have been frequent shootings along the Mawlamyine- Yangon road, and people who want to travel by train are coming at the moment because of the delay in the journey after the inspection at the Nyaung Khar Shay X- Ray checkpoint.
